Agnes Nampijinpa Brown was born in 1973 in Nyirripi, a remote Aboriginal community approximately 450 km north-west of Alice Springs. Agnes is passionate about painting her father’s Jukurrpa stories, these paintings represent his country. “I like painting the designs of my country, they are colourful and uplifting and they make me think about my Father. He used to tell me his stories when I was a little girl.”
This print depicts Puyurru, west of Yuendumu. In the usually dry creek beds are ‘mulju’ (soakages), or naturally occurring wells. This print tells a story of two Jangala men, rainmakers, who sang for the rain and unleashed a giant storm. The storm travelled from the east to the west until it reached Warlura, a waterhole to the east of Yuendumu in the Northern Territory.
